Central Region games to be played simultaneously Joel Luphahla

THE Central Soccer League has resolved that all remaining matches be played on the same date and at the same time in a bid to promote fair play as the end of season draws nigh.

Pacesetters TelOne, army side Tongogara, power generators ZPC Munyati, prison warders Whawha and Sheasham are all in contention for the sole Premiership ticket.

All five teams have six games left, with coach Joel Luphahla and his TelOne side enjoying a two-point lead at the top of the league table with 31 points from 17 games. Tongogara are second.

Only five points separate TelOne and fifth-placed Sheasham.

Stanley Chapeta, the Central Soccer League chairman, told Chronicle Sport yesterday that all remaining games will be played simultaneously starting this Sunday.

“We have reached a crucial stage where the championship race is at its peak and to uphold the Fair Play spirit, all games will be played on the same date and at the same time. It’s an interesting title race because up to today, there is no clear favourite,” said Chapeta.

He said the disciplinary committee is expected to deliver its judgment in the case involving ZPC Munyati and Vumbachikwe, whose decision is likely to have a bearing on the title race.

Vumbachikwe arrived late for their encounter against ZPC Munyati following a breakdown they encountered on their way to Munyati.

The Matabeleland South side informed the league and ZPC Munyati about their problem before hiring another bus to take them to Munyati, but upon arrival they found the home team and the referees already gone.

Should the disciplinary hearing decide to walkover Vumbachikwe, ZPC Munyati, who are third with 28 points, will shoot to the top of the table and be tied on 31 points with TelOne, but will have a superior goal difference.

On Sunday, TelOne face MSU at Ascot, while Tongogara host FC Lasaffre at Battlefields. ZPC Munyati have a tricky encounter against Sheasham, while Whawha are expected to collect maximum points against bottom of the table side Black Eagles.
